PDX Pop-Up Shop program is looking to secure locations for this year. As most of you are likely aware, the PDX Pop-Up Shop program is delivered each year by the Portland Business Alliance, Downtown Clean and Safe, and the Portland Development Commission, the Downtown Retail Advocate, and the City of Portland. The PDX Pop-Up Shop program was launched as a result of the Downtown Retail Strategy Task Force report issued in June 2009, and has had five successful seasons in downtown. In 2014 we strategically moved the program to Old Town Chinatown and had equal success there, which we are hoping to duplicate again this year. The program aims to expand on the positive lens currently focused on the neighborhood.
The goal of the PDX Pop-Up Shop program is to help stimulate the retail environment in a specific neighborhood over the Holiday season by activating vacant store fronts with local retailers. The project specifically focuses on ground floor spaces and activates vacancies with tenants on a temporary basis during the Holiday season while permanent tenants continue to be recruited. PDX Pop-Up locations showcase local independent design talent and encourage shoppers to seek out the unique gift offerings during the Holiday season. In addition to supporting local talent and emerging retail entrepreneurs, the shops also permit property owners to showcase their space for future tenants and drive additional business to the neighborhood as a benefit to existing retailers. This program has an incredibly successful history with several Pop-Up Shop alumni opening permanent locations in downtown. This year we have lined up four amazing potential retail groups including OTCT’s own non-profit Blanchet House, who will be selling hand crafted Adirondack chairs and other amazing wood items.
To that end, we are hoping to secure one to three locations in Old Town Chinatown for this holiday season. Please contact Cori Jacobs, Downtown Retail Advocate, 503.860.7296, if you have any ideas or leads. Unfortunately, if we are unsuccessful in securing a space by September 23rd we will have to look for space outside of Old Town Chinatown.
