Old Town: A Historic Hub of Diversity and Inclusivity in Portland

Born out of an influx of Chinese immigrants working the railroads and mining for precious metals in the 1800s, Old Town has become a hub for marginalized communities in the Portland Metro area. From the Chinese immigrants of the 1800s, the Japanese immigrants of the 1890s, African American, Jewish, Latin to the LGBTQIA2S+ community of today, Old Town continues to be an area filled with diverse people and businesses.

Old Town, Today.

Old Town continues to grow and evolve, becoming a hub for creative ideas, people and businesses that still attracts Portland residents and visitors to its historic streets. Through its art, food, shops and nightlife, Old Town remains rooted in its mission to bring people of all walks of life together to celebrate our shared history and inclusivity.

Old Town is more than its past challenges, but a vibrant community and district that welcomes everyone!
